Depending on where you live, Pride will be different this year. Whether you are hesitate to return to maskless crowds or are eager to shake your tail feather we have some ideas that will have you celebrating Pride Month loud and proud.
A lot of cities are putting together some really great virtual pride events. So support your community, grab a bottle of your favourite rosé and turn up virtually. Events range from live performances to sex education forums to premiering films about our queer history.
Raise a Pride Flag
LGBTQ individuals and allies currently hang the rainbow flag and many rainbow-themed items and colour schemes as an outward symbol of their identity or support. Give someone a reason to smile when they walk past your home and see a flag that makes them feel supported.
Host a Virtual Pride Party
Hire a local drag queen or do a queer trivia night, there is a lot of fun to be had on Zoom. Maybe all agree on a signature cocktail you can all make together. The best part is, it doesn’t matter how much you drink because you can just pass out on your couch.
Donate to an LGBTQ2S+ Organization
Paying in forward and supporting groups who fight every day for our equality is a feel good moment. You can cut the check yourself or rally your friends to join you so you can make a larger donation. If you’re desperate for attention, set a fundraising goal and if it is met you’ll do something ridiculous like shave your head.
Whether your city is one of the strictest lockdowns in the world or you live in Florida and can make out with 34 strangers maskless we need to remember beyond the party we need to remember the purpose of Pride. So download an e-book or walk over to a local bookstore and pick up some books. Here are our recommendations:
Support LGBTQ2S+ small business owners
Sure you can get your pride flag on Amazon or order that sexy speedo online but try to get your local village and support queer small businesses. A lot of our communities have taken a hit from COVID-19 and it’s our responsibility to help build it back up.
This Pride Month we are sending you love and light. Remember to take care of your friends and remember the purpose. We need to show our queer brothers and sisters who are scared to living authentically everyday that there is a community waiting and ready to support them. We need to continue the fight for equal rights, the individuals before us brought us this opportunity to celebrate and we need to make sure it stays this way for years to come. Happy Pride beauties! Make it the best one yet.
